CAT FUEL SYSTEM.

FUEL SYSTEMS AT CATERPILLAR ENGINE :

PUMPS AND LINES:-

  • MULTIPLE PLUNGER PUMP.
  • HIGH PRESSURE FUEL LINES.
  • INJECTION NOZZLES.
  • LIMITED INJECTION PRESSURE (18000 PSI).
  • LIMITED INJECTION TIMING.
  • LIMITED INJECTION  RATE CAPABILTIES.

MECHANICAL UNIT INJECTOR ( MUI ) :-

  • MAINLY USED ON LARGE ENGINES TO KEEP PRESSURES IN LONG HIGH PRESSURE LINES.
  • MUI REQUIRES AN ADDITIONAL CAM LOBE ,FILTERS ,PUSH ROD,ROCKER ARM FOR EACH CYLINDER.

PROGRAMMABLE ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROL (PEEC)

  • ECM TAKES OVER OFTHE FUNCTIONS OF THE MECHANICAL GOVERNOR.
  • FUEL PUMP STILL USED.
  • THROTTLE LINKAGE REPLACED  BY ELECTRONIC THROTTEL.
  • GOOD AIR TO FUEL RATIO CONTROL BY ELECTRONICALLY.
  • ENGINE IS EQUIPPED WITH VARIOUS SENSORS FOR MONITORING.

MECHANICAL ELECTRONIC UNIT INJECTORS (EUI / MEUI )

  • FUEL IS METERED ELECTRONICALLY BY MEANS OF A SOLENOID OPERATED POPPET VALVE.
  • SYSTEM STILL REQUIES A MECHANICAL VALVE TRAIN TO ACTUATE THE PLUNGER ( MECHANICALLY ACTUATED ,ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED).
  • FUEL TRANSFER PUMP REPLACE THE ( PUMP & LINES).

 HYDRAULIC ELECTRONIC UNIT INJECTORS ( HEUI ) :-

  • PLUNGER MOVEMENT IS NOT LIMITED TO SPEED OR DURATION OF CAM LOBE .
  • PLUNGER SPEED IS A FUNCTION OF ACTUATION PRESSURE VERSUS FUEL PUMPING RESISTANCE .
  • INJECTION PRESSURE IS + 20000 PSI.
